You don't need a card to get started
Creating a store doesn't require a payment method up front — every new store starts on a trial automatically, so you can connect your POS and explore before entering billing details. You do need a card on file before the trial ends, though, or the store's subscription won't renew.
Two ways to pay: account card or per-store card
Scroll supports billing at two levels:
- Account card (the default) — one card on file that automatically bills every store under your account. Simplest option if you only have one store, or want all your stores on the same card.
- Per-store card — a specific store can be billed on its own separate card instead of the shared account card. Useful if a store needs its own budget or billing owner.
Setting up your account card
- Go to Settings (the gear icon in the header) → Billing tab.
- Choose Monthly or Yearly.
- Select Set up account billing, then enter your card details.
Once set up, this screen shows a Manage card & invoices button that opens Stripe's billing portal, where you can update the card, download invoices, or see upcoming charges.
Putting a specific store on its own card
- From that store, go to Profile → Billing tab, or select Bill this store separately wherever it's shown (for example, on the empty-transactions screen).
- Choose Monthly or Yearly.
- Select Use this store's own card (or Subscribe this store if it isn't on a subscription yet), then enter the card.
A store already on its own card can be moved back to the account card from the same screen.
Updating a card already on file
Go to that store's Profile → Billing tab and use the payment-method form there to replace the card without changing anything else about the subscription.
What happens if a plan lapses
If a store's subscription isn't active (trial ended with no card, or a payment failed), premium tabs like Insights get locked with a message to reactivate — your sales data keeps being collected in the meantime, so nothing is lost, it just isn't visible until billing is fixed.
